On May 24, 2006, Corporal Jason Makowski's life came to an extreamly tragic end as he resopnded to a call for service.

Corporal Makowski and several other officers from the Dearborn Heights Police Department and surrounding citys responded to an out of control  man waving a gun around. The suspect, who was identified as 61-year old Jeffery Wolf told his wife that "There's going to be some killing soon," and began ordering his neighbors into their homes.

When responding officers arrived at the scene, the suspect ambushed them as he opened fire on responding officers while retreating into his home. He then reappeared and continued firing at officers from inside the home - pinning the first resonding officers down.

Other Officers from the Dearborn Heights Police Department, including 11-year veteran Corporal Jason Makowski, and surrounding neighborhoods quickly arrived on location. Upon arrival, Corporal Makowski made his way through the backyards of neighboring homes, stopping at the home directly across the street from the gunman. Jason sought cover alongside the home as he began instructing other officers of the gunmans location and activities. However, it wasn't long before Jason became the gunmans target and the gumnan began firing directly at Cpl. Makowski.

As Jason looked around the corner of a brick chimney he was struck in the head by a single bullet fired by the gunman.  After Corporal Makowski was shot, the shooter continued firing towards Corporal Makowski's position, preventing other officers from imediately removing him from the location. After some time, several officers were able to reach Corporal Makowski's location and remove him from the area as they continued to come under fire from the gunman.

With the help of his fellow Officers, Corporal Makowski was transported to Garden City Hospital and then flown to the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, where he succumbed to his wound at 4:30 AM the following morning.

I never dreamed it would be me,
My name for all eternity.
Recorded here at this hallowed place,
Allas, my name, no more my face.

"In the line of duty" I hear them say,
My family now the price to pay.
My folded flag stained with their tears,
We only had those few short years.

The badge no longer on my chest,
I sleep now in eternal rest.
My sword I pass to those behind,
And pray they keep this in mind.

I never dreamed it would be me.
And with heavy heart and bended knee,
I ask for all here from the past...
Dear God, let my name be the last.
